Today was the classroom picnic for those of us who sold at least 20 candy bars for the World'd Finest Chocolate fundraiser. We had a great time together listening to Disney songs while eating our lunch. A giant ant tried to crash our picnic!

What’s New
in Grade Two?
Feb. 25- March. 1, 2013
We will have the same skills and objectives as last week. I don't feel like we were fully able to master our skills since Monday was a holiday and I was out sick on Thursday. Even though I returned Friday, I wasn't at full speed. I probably should have stayed home to rest, but I don't handle being sick very well. I'm not a very restful patient ;) Additionally, this week we will be using two mornings to take the Discovery Assessment as preparation for the TCAP test.
Thursday will be our class picnic during lunchtime for students who sold at least 20 chocolate bars!
Mrs. Cramer will be our sub Friday afternoon as my reward for selling 700 candy bars. What a treat to have a principal and pajamas on Read Across America Day to celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday!

Pictures of us in action!
Check out our workstations this week!
In math, we identified coins and bills, showed amounts (using plastic coins and paper bills) using the smallest number of each, read story problems and added coin amounts, and used "kidzsearch" online to research the front and back of each of our coins. Some of us noticed the fact that the nickel, many quarters, and the golden dollar don't all have the same heads and tails. New ones have been released and look different! We love to research!
In literacy, we made new word with prefixes, sequenced cards and wrote their order of events, found evidence for scavenger hunt questions about our story One Dark Night, chose the correct pronouns to fit in sentences, performed a Reader's Theater, wrote sentences for and illustrated our vocabulary words, and highlighted words with prefixes while reading our decodable reader story. Whoa, we are exhausted!

in Grade Two?

Our Valentine's day was a day to remember. It's so nice to have one day of the year that we can tell our friends and family how much we love them!
Parent/Teacher conferences are this Monday from 1-3 pm. Unfortunately it's only a two-hour window so I only requested conferences with a handful of families. I would still like to meet with all of you if you can stay around after school over the next few weeks. It's important to me that each one of my students know that parents and teacher are on the same side and have wonderful things to say, even if we have concerns. We all believe that they will grow up to be someone great!
On Friday, we spent time honoring our Falcons of the week for the month of February: Isabella, Angel, Aryana, and Maricela. We are so proud of you!
Mrs. Cramer took time during our culture assembly to award Armando for selling 187 candy bars to help raise money for our new playground. We are so thankful for you and all our other friends for selling chocolate!
Friday will be our class picnic during lunchtime for students who sold at least 20 chocolate bars!
Evelyn, James, and Armando will be receiving their NO homework passes and gift cards for being top class sellers this week!

FALCONS Culture Assembly
Today we recognized our chocolate sales winners and honored Isabella, Angel, Aryana, and Maricela as Falcons of the week for February.
We're so proud of you!
We're so proud of you!
William is so happy for his friend, Armando, who was just called to the front of the auditorium.
Armando takes a peek at his $25 prize for being the 3rd place school-wide winner! Mrs. Cramer took them to eat lunch off campus today...How lucky!
Mrs. Cramer presented Armando and Moriah with a giant-sized World's Finest candy bar.
Isabella was prouder than ever to receive her t-shirt!
Angel was so thrilled his mom was there to see him!
I'm positive Aryana was excited, but she tried to hide her face the whole time. I was finally able to sneak a shot of her.
We are so glad Maricela joined our class a few weeks ago!
Angel and his sweet mama!
